Calendar and Lunch Menus

School Year Calendar

The Franklin Schools have programs to fit student and parent needs. Franklin Country Day Montessori School (FCD) offers two calendar options: Traditional School Year or Expanded School Year. FCD's Traditional Year calendar follows a calendar similar to the Montgomery County Public Schools' calendar. FCD's Expanded Year calendar is approximately four weeks longer than FCD's Traditional Year. Franklin Montessori School's (FMS) calendar is shorter than FCD's Traditional Year by approximately 10 days.

Inclement Weather and Emergency Closing Policy

If Montgomery County Public Schools are closed due to inclement weather or other emergency, Franklin will also be closed. When Montgomery County Public Schools open two hours late, Franklin always opens at 9:30 a.m.

When inclement weather conditions develop during the school day and Montgomery County Public Schools dismiss early, we will contact you to let you know Franklin is closing. We would like you to pick up your child as soon as possible. Please listen to radio station WTOP 103.5 FM for the latest update. Also, check WTOP's website: wtopnews.com for Franklin updates.

Lunch Options

Lunch is fun and a very social time. It is very exciting to be able to eat lunch at school with friends. We suggest nutritious lunches be sent, always keeping in mind your child's food preferences. Uneaten portions will be sent home. Children who stay for lunch should bring food and a beverage that do not require refrigeration or heating in a labeled lunch box. Please do not send lunch in a paper bag. An ice pack or thermos will help food maintain the appropriate temperature until lunch is eaten. The Franklin Schools provide milk for all children at lunch time.

An optional Catered Lunch program is available. Catered lunches are provided by an outside vendor to children who sign-up for this option. Franklin families receive an order form and sample menus on a monthly basis. Currently, Catered Lunch costs approximately $85 per month. Prices are subject to change.

Children enrolled at Franklin until noon may bring lunch and stay until 1:00 p.m. to eat with their friends. To make arrangements, please send a note to school or call the office. "Drop-in" hours are $10 per hour. Bills are sent home at the end of each month.
